Self Destruction or Self Motivation? Pick Your Power
Monday, October 5th, 2009Self Destruction or Self Motivation? Pick Your Power
Self destructive behavior is a tool that many people use as a coping mechanism when things get too difficult to handle. Eating disorders, negative self sabotage, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, self-injury and suicide attempts are just a few of the various forms of self destructive behavior.
This self-punishment is usually a response to a personal failure, which may be real or perceived. If these self destructive behaviors are not dealt with immediately, one can be sure that depression will soon become a problem if it hasn’t already been.
The Poison of Depression
Unless you have tasted the poison of depression, its hard to imagine how nasty it is. I would hear about rich and famous people checking into mental hospitals to deal with depression and I would say to myself, “What in the world could be that wrong in these people’s lives that would cause them to be depressed? These people have it all.” Then after I had the very best year in my life when I had the dream life, the dream girl, the dream home, and all the material things that I ever wanted, I too became depressed. I developed a relationship with depression and it wasn’t fun. I also know that I became depressed because I led myself down that path. I was accountable for my depression.
Its Just a Choice
My depression was one of the best things that ever happened to me. It was during that time that I discovered that all the money in the world doesn’t mean a thing if you are not in total control of your thoughts. Before my depression, I was one of the most motivated people that you would ever meet. After all, it had been my dream to be a motivational speaker since I was 22 years old. However, I let one bad situation lead to some negative thoughts. Those negative thoughts led to more damaging negative thoughts. Negative thinking is like a plague. It spreads so fast its unbelievable. Before I knew it, I had become depressed. Then one day it hit me like a ton of bricks. The only person in the world that could fix my depression was me.
Behavior Modification
Buddha said, “No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.” The decision to take back control over my life was an empowering one. The more positive I thought, the more empowered I became. Before long I was mentally stronger than I had ever been. I was overcoming obstacles and challenges by the day. My empowerment led to more empowerment. I had total control of my life because I was in total control of my thoughts.
Buddha said, “We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world.” Negative thoughts lead to a dark and negative life. The greater your thoughts, the greater your life will be. If you catch yourself being negative remind yourself that negative thoughts = bad feelings. Change your thoughts immediately so you can empower yourself. Whether you are self destructive or self motivated it is entirely up to you. Both behaviors are extremely powerful and can truly effect the quality of your life. Its all up to you to take control of your life. What power are you going to choose? Are you going to choose the dark and damaging power of self destruction? Or are you going to choose the empowering force of self motivation?
Below is 8 Steps to Thought Mastery
1. Reset your mind of everything negative in your life. The past must be forgotten because everyday is a new opportunity to make great things happen.
2. Never think anything negative again. It will seem hard at first so if you catch yourself being negative, simply remind yourself that you are conditioning yourself to be a thought master. Think of something empowering to focus on.
3. Focus on the future and all of the great outcomes that you desire. Focus on your empowering belief system that you are currently creating that is going to allow you to achieve all of the future outcomes you desire. The new version of you will be so much better than the old version of you. Keep giving yourself positive affirmations as much as you can.
4. Visualize everything that you want to do in your life. Your actions will come from your visualization as your thoughts become things. Visualize everything as if it is your current reality.
5. Remind yourself that you don’t believe in failure any more. Failure is just a chance for you to begin again more intelligently. Remember, win or learn, there is no failure.
6. Be flexible in your action plan. If you don’t get the results that you desire, be willing to keep trying different solutions until you achieve your desired outcomes.
7. Condition yourself to believe you can achieve anything you desire. Think big because if you set great expectations then you will have great achievements. Don’t limit your abilities with limited thoughts.
8. Be totally aware of your feelings because bad thoughts = bad feelings. Great thoughts = great feelings. You will find everything in your life getting better because of your awesome new attitude towards life.
