One Life to Live

Today was one of those days in my life where I was reminded how special this miracle we call life can really be. I saw the very best of humanity, and I saw the very worst of humanity. I saw how special life can be and I saw how dangerous life can be. I was reminded that life can be beautiful and I was reminded that life can be horrifying. I saw a celebration of life and I saw a homicide in life.

Life is What we Make it

I was at a funeral reception of a gentleman that my family has known for about 25 years. When they made an announcement that they were going to show a 20 minute presentation that his grandchildren had made, I was a little skeptical because I was wondering how they planned on keeping the audience’s attention for 20 minutes. When the slide show started, I was truly moved. I saw a man that truly lived an incredible life. Every picture captivated my soul because he always had an incredible smile on his face. Every picture showed an amazing connection with his wife, his children, his grand children, and his many friends. My partner Cristina who had never met this gentleman, started to cry because this slide show moved her so much. She saw the very same thing that I saw. We saw a man who made the very best of his life. Did he have problems in his life, I am sure he did. Everyone has problems at one time or another. It is not the problems in our lives that make us, it is how we handle those problems. The quality of our lives depend on the quality of our spirit. Life is what we make it, and this gentleman clearly made the very best of his life.

Then I Saw The Worst of Life

On my way home I was constantly thinking how precious life can really be. I live in a gated community right next to the gated community that my family lives in. I often stop by to see my mother on my way home. At the entrance of the community was about four different news vans reporting live. This was a shock to me because I am not used to seeing news vans outside of the gates of this subdivision. This subdivision is where Tiger Woods, Shaquille O’neil, Vince Carter and the rest of the who’s who in Orlando call home. The homes start at about 2,000,000 and go up to over 20,000,000. As I passed mansion after mansion I pulled up to a scene that seemed to be right out of a movie. I saw more police cars that I could count. I saw crime scene investigation units and I saw crime scene tape everywhere. This wasn’t CSI Miami, this was Central Florida’s most exclusive subdivision where bad things are not suppose to happen. I eventually found out that a man shot his wife in the head, ending her life. What situation in this man’s life could have possibly been so bad that he decided to take his wife’s life?

What in The World Happened?

Murder in the most exclusive community in Orlando. I don’t have all the details because it is an active homicide investigation. However, I really don’t care what the details are. Nothing in the world could’ve been so bad that drove him to kill his wife. I know that there is no reason in the world to end a life in the way that this woman’s life was ended. What went wrong? Were they facing money problems? Was their home facing foreclosure? Did one person cheat on the other? Did someone hurt the other person’s feelings badly? Who gives a damn because there is nothing in life that can make your world so bad that you need to take someone else’s life.  I have faced problems in my life that I thought would destroy me. I have faced adversity that I thought would be the end of me. Guess what? I survived and every time I overcame my trials and tribulations I became a better person. I have heard of people overcoming the most difficult circumstances. I have heard of people rising from the darkest of places only to experience a glory that was once unimaginable. If someone else did it, anyone can do it.

I Don’t Give a Damn

I don’t care what challenges you face because I know that you have the power within you to overcome anything that life throws at you. I know that there is nothing that you can face that hasn’t already been conquered by someone else. Is it going to be easy? No, its going to be hard. Sometimes it is going to be extremely difficult but I know you can do it if you desire to do it. You can achieve anything you believe. Nietzsche said, “What doesn’t kill you, will only make you stronger.” I know you have problems, but there is nothing that you can’t overcome. It may look like the end of the world, but I promise you that you can overcome. Never give up hope. Cherish your life, cherish the love, and cherish the days that you are blessed to live. You are not here forever so make sure you make every moment of your life count. Your life can be extraordinary or it can be miserable. Its entirely up to you. What life are you going to live?

Martin Luther King said, “Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars.”

Please take care of yourself,

Live Life to the Fullest. 17 Steps to Live Your Life Right

Friday, March 6th, 2009

Last week four friends went on a fishing trip in the prime of their lives. After their boat capsized some 35 miles off the coast of Florida, an extensive search began. One of the boaters survived, while the other three have yet to be found. They were enjoying their lives to the very last minute, doing something that they truly loved. I am sure they had no idea that they were going to be enjoying their last fishing trip. I never had the honor of knowing these men, but I truly admire people who live their lives doing what they love.

I want to dedicate this to all the people who never got a chance to say good bye or I love you to their loved ones, one last time. Please enjoy these 17 steps to living your life right.

1. Live each day like its your very last day. Not like you have plenty of time, but like its your very last day.

2. Constantly focus on the best thoughts so you can empower yourself. Don’t waste your precious thoughts on negative thinking. Your thoughts become your reality, that why its imperative that you have power and control over your thoughts.

3. You can achieve anything you desire if you believe in your abilities to achieve. Never stop believing in yourself. If you ever do, you are done. I don’t care what others believe you can achieve, I only care about what you believe you can achieve. Never Quit, Never Quit, Never Quit… Did I say NEVER QUIT?

4. Look forward to the future with unlimited enthusiasm, excitement, and hope. Never look back, you can’t change the past, what you can change is your future. Remember Henry Ford said, “Win or learn, there is no failure.”

5. Love everyone and everything in your life. Never forget to tell your loved ones how much you love them every time you walk out the door.  You never know when its going to be your last chance to tell them how much you care.

6. Don’t hate anyone or anything. Hate is one of the worst emotions in the world and it should be avoided at all cost. Martin Luther King said, “Bless those who curse you.” Remember only positive and empowering thoughts.

7. Spend your time as wisely as you can. Don’t waste any precious time. Its okay to wait, but make your wait as beneficial as possible. (Read something positive, tell someone you care, call a friend)

8. Your true friends are priceless. Value them, cherish them, and be there for them. Don’t keep giving the wrong friend chances. If someone does you wrong, move on. Wish them well and never look back. They are the ones who are missing out from your great friendship.

9. Never forget your dream. Work as hard as you can when its work time. That means every action you take  during working hours should be getting you closer to manifesting your dreams. You can’t get your wasted time back. So work as wisely as you can while chasing your dream.

10. When its play time, play as hard as you can. Try to make your life as fun as possible. Having fun in life is priceless. Never forget the inner kid in you.

11. Happiness comes from within. You are only going to be as happy as you want to be. Don’t hold on to hard feelings. Hold on to happy feelings.

12. Remember that opportunities often come disguised in hardship. Be willing to take good risks because the greatest risk is the one that you don’t take. Remember Opportunities don’t go away, they only go to someone else.

13. Master your fears. Don’t scare yourself when it comes to your fears. Face your fears with resolve. You will be shocked how easy it is to overcome your fears when you are courageous.

14. Live with passion and urgency. You are not here for a long time, you are here for a good life. You only live once, live with passion, live with urgency, and make sure you are dripping with enthusiasm. Spread your passion to the world.

15. Master the art of communication. You will make everyone fall in love with you if you are a master communicator. Barack Obama has shown the world what a master communicator can accomplish with the gift of communication.

16. Commit yourself to learning something new everyday. Commit to constant and never ending improvement. Be a student of this game called life.

17. You are the master of your destiny, you are the master of your future. You will get the most out of your life if you give your life your all. Don’t live with regret, do what you want, when you want. You are the only person in the world that can make this happen.

Are You Sweating Every Little Thing In Life? Or Are You Just Having Fun?

Friday, October 10th, 2008

When you wake up in the morning you should be very excited about the opportunities that your day presents you. If you are not waking up that way you need to evaluate what your problem is. Are you letting the world get to you? Are you sweating the small stuff or the big stuff? If you are sweating anything you need to get back to the basics. Go back to having fun in your life. Try to make your life as fun as you can possibly make it. You are not on this earth for a long time so you might as well make your life a good time. No matter what your problems are they are only going to be as big as you make them. If you keep focusing on your problems they are only going to magnify until your problems become out of control. Some people have a tendency to make the smallest problems into the biggest ordeals because of their attitudes. These people are the ones who usually sweat the small stuff. These people need to go back to the basics and focus on having fun. Learn to always have a positive approach to any situation. Your problems are only going to get worse if you focus on the negative aspects of your life. I know it is easy to focus on negative things but that doesn’t mean that you should. Focus on having the best time possible because you never know when your precious life will end so focus on the good points in your life. Focus on the future and the opportunities that you will have. Focus on having fun again in your life. Having fun can make any situation better. I feel so fortunate because being a motivational speaker allows me to have fun therefore I don’t even consider it a job because I am too busy having fun motivating people. Find things to do that are fun for you. Remember, it all comes down to your attitude towards life. Are you going to sweat the small stuff and be miserable until the day you die? Or are you going to live your life to the fullest as you have the most fun as you possibly can. I don’t know about you but I am going to make the best of every situation and have the most fun possible. It is the only way for me.
